As a collector & restorer every so often
a lil gem comes along that possess enough magic to impress
the pants off me, this is one of them.
The 60s Philips AG-9016 is Single ended
2W + 2w valve amplifier. 2x Philips ecc83, 2x Philips EL95.
The EL95s test better than new the ecc83s next best thing to
new and all well matched -these might be the original valves
I suspect.
I replaced rectifier, added rf snub caps,
power electrolytics, cathode bypass caps, signal earth
returns improved, bias and plate current checked, pots and
valve sockets cleaned/lubricated. Fitted quality gold
speaker terminals and RCA inputs plus a nice blue led. Has
the desirable & durable mullard/philips mustard caps and
quality Lemco silver micas in tone and feedback ccts.
No crackles or hum. In short a quiet,
capable, and sonically impressive sounding amp for those
higher sensitivity speakers. Condition is very presentable
with just minor paint loss & blemishes on top cover. Being a
low heat producer is a good candidate for a nice nz native
wood box.
Find out what the fuss is about flea
powered SE amps. (remember 2W is half the volume of 20W)
